SYBIL CARR

BELMONT, MS – Sybil Laree Brown Carr passed from the earth to heaven on June 27, 2015 at the age of 95.  Sybil loved her role as a preacher’s wife.  She and her husband were among the founders of the Florida School of Preaching in Lakeland, FL.  Never one to meet a stranger, Sybil was an admitted “big talker.”  Blevins, a quiet man, counted on her outgoing personality to help him in his work as a minister and as the school’s director.  She loved all people, but had a special love for gospel preachers.  Sybil maintained that if one were a Christian, even one’s cat could tell.  At her passing, she was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Dennis.

A retired real estate agent and broker, Sybil got her realtor’s license at 60, and her broker’s license at 65. She passed both exams on her first try, quite an accomplishment for Florida licenses.  She was a strong competitor whether in real estate for her high school basketball team.  Sybil read encyclopedias the way some read novels.  She wore out many dictionaries working on crossword puzzles.  She was an avid viewer of the news channels and loved to debate politics.

One of Sybil’s favorite past-times was travel.  She and Blevins traveled most all of the forty eight continental states.  She accompanied her daughter and a group of high school students on a three-week trip to Europe.  She was impressed by the Eiffel Tower of France, fascinated by the ruins of Rome and the canals of Venice, Italy, and carried away with the mountains of her favorite country, Switzerland.  At eighty-four, she accompanied a group of medical missionaries to Honduras where she worked in a pharmacy.

Sybil met Blevins, the love of her life, when the two of them had the lead roles of sweethearts in a play at New Site High School from which she was a graduate.  She has gone on her last and best trip to join him in their final act together in heaven.

She is survived by a daughter-Linda Wyatt (Ken) of Cordova, TN; a son-Butch Carr (Arlene) of Belmont; three grandchildren-Danny Phillips, Melody Buss (Gary) and Melissa Scott; four great-grandchildren-Bradley and Jacob Rains and Samantha and Ethan Scott; and two sisters-Lebra Moore and Mary Mitros.
