DOROTHY A. PEARSON

Early Monday morning, on October 10, 2016, God determined that it was time to call our beloved mother, Dorothy Ann Pearson to her eternal life. Dorothy, affectionately called by those who loved her “Mother”, “Granny”, “Nana”, “Big Dot”, and “Aunt Dot”, was born on February 7, 1936 in Smithville, Mississippi to the late Lushion and Vera Bogan. She was educated in the Colbert County school system in Alabama and graduated from Cherokee High School. Her work career included being a License Vocational Nurse, a “key punch” operator, a librarian and an assistant director working with the youth summer enrichment programs.

Having professed Christ as her personal Lord and Savior when she was 9 years old, she was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  During her youth, Dorothy was an active member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was secretary of the Sunday School and regularly attended Baptist Youth Training Union.  The quintessential “Daddy’s Girl,” Dorothy would happily walk 5 miles from Allsboro, Alabama every Sunday morning to clean the church and build a fire in the pot belly stove because it meant spending time with her biological father in the service of her Heavenly Father.

Dorothy moved to Michigan City, Indiana and married Benjamin Brown Sr. (aka Frank) in 1955.  To that union, six lovely children were born; Benjamin Jr., Debra Ann, Linda Denise, Rodney Keith, Angela Xena, and Tony LaVera.  In 1975, she met and married Lawrence Pearson.  That union was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Tiffany Roxanna Pearson.

She was an anointed woman of God with a calling on her life to serve God and his people.   She was baptized in “Jesus’ Name” while at the Christian Unity Church.  An ordained Evangelist in the APOSTOLIC Assemblies of Christ, Inc.,    she served the Lord with gladness, dignity, grace and passion.  For more than three years, she served as the Pastor of Joint Heirs with Christ in Oxford, Mississippi. For eight years, she served at Living Way Apostolic Church, in Courtland, Alabama as an Assistant Minister and Evangelist.  Dorothy held two national offices with the Apostolic Assemblies of Christ, Vice President of Home Mission and Supervisor of the Local and National Active Workers.

After returning to Michigan City, she united with Christ Temple Apostolic Ministries where she served as a member of the Mother’s Board, the Missionary Society, and the Pastor’s Aid committee and as a Sunday school teacher.

Mother Pearson had a heart for service and a love for cooking.  She and her sister in the Lord, Mother Bobbie Lindsey, were inspired to start a kitchen ministry, serving “soul” food which enabled them to nourish the spirit and the body.   On countless Fridays, they could be found in the church kitchen whipping up delicious meals to raise money for God’s kingdom.

Strongly rooted in the word of God and steadfast in her devotion and commitment to serving the Lord, Mother Pearson faithfully served him, ministering to all, even in her final days.  HE was truly the light that guided her and the center of her Joy!  She steadfastly believed in the POWER of PRAYER and the WORKING OF THE BLOOD!

Services will be Tuesday, October 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Carter’s Branch Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, 1 sister, Annette Brock; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bogan; 7 children, Benjamin F. Brown of Tishomingo Mississippi, Debra A. Brown of Tupelo Mississippi, Linda B. Prom (Rene) of Silver Spring Maryland, Rodney K. Brown of Pendleton, Indiana, Angela X Brown of Hyattsville Maryland, Dr. Tonya L. Jones (Anthony) of  Nashville Tennessee, Tiffany R. Pearson of Michigan City, Indiana,  twenty three grandchildren, a host of great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends;  3 goddaughters, Dorothy Byrd Robinson, Annette Jeans and Jackie Robinson;  3 surrogate daughters, Pamela Wade, Erica Smith and Rholando Lee and several  lifelong, loving and devoted friends.

She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers; Johnnie, Willie Bob, and Luke, a foster brother, Paul Bryson and a foster sister, Lela Byrd (who was also her 1st cousin).

Her bright smile, her loving spirit and her sweet aroma will be sorely missed!

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 18, 10-11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.

SYBIL CARR

BELMONT, MS – Sybil Laree Brown Carr passed from the earth to heaven on June 27, 2015 at the age of 95.  Sybil loved her role as a preacher’s wife.  She and her husband were among the founders of the Florida School of Preaching in Lakeland, FL.  Never one to meet a stranger, Sybil was an admitted “big talker.”  Blevins, a quiet man, counted on her outgoing personality to help him in his work as a minister and as the school’s director.  She loved all people, but had a special love for gospel preachers.  Sybil maintained that if one were a Christian, even one’s cat could tell.  At her passing, she was a member of Liberty Church of Christ in Dennis.

A retired real estate agent and broker, Sybil got her realtor’s license at 60, and her broker’s license at 65. She passed both exams on her first try, quite an accomplishment for Florida licenses.  She was a strong competitor whether in real estate for her high school basketball team.  Sybil read encyclopedias the way some read novels.  She wore out many dictionaries working on crossword puzzles.  She was an avid viewer of the news channels and loved to debate politics.

One of Sybil’s favorite past-times was travel.  She and Blevins traveled most all of the forty eight continental states.  She accompanied her daughter and a group of high school students on a three-week trip to Europe.  She was impressed by the Eiffel Tower of France, fascinated by the ruins of Rome and the canals of Venice, Italy, and carried away with the mountains of her favorite country, Switzerland.  At eighty-four, she accompanied a group of medical missionaries to Honduras where she worked in a pharmacy.

Sybil met Blevins, the love of her life, when the two of them had the lead roles of sweethearts in a play at New Site High School from which she was a graduate.  She has gone on her last and best trip to join him in their final act together in heaven.

She is survived by a daughter-Linda Wyatt (Ken) of Cordova, TN; a son-Butch Carr (Arlene) of Belmont; three grandchildren-Danny Phillips, Melody Buss (Gary) and Melissa Scott; four great-grandchildren-Bradley and Jacob Rains and Samantha and Ethan Scott; and two sisters-Lebra Moore and Mary Mitros.
