WANDA IVEY

BELMONT, MS. – Wanda Ivey, 54, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at North Ms. Medical Center. She was born January 12, 1960 in Tishomingo County, Ms. to Lester Jackson and Verla Dean Robbins Jackson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Haskell Sparks officiating. Burial will be in East Prentiss Cemetery, New Site, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband – Doyle Ivey, Belmont, Ms.; her children – Timothy Ivey, Crystal Ivey, Shane Wiggington and Padden Christine Jackson; daughter-in-law  - Erica Ivey; grandchildren – Lillan and Gabriel Chandler and Gwen Ivey; brother – David Dunnagan (Lela) and uncles – R.C. Robbins, Dexter Robbins (Peggy) and Dupree Pardue.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms.


JIMMY DALE GANN

TISHOMINGO, MS –Jimmy Dale Gann, 61, died April 19, 2014 at the Iuka Hospital.  He was born in Paden, MS to Thomas Rufus and Mollie Gann.  He was a truck driver and member of Palestine Church in Tishomingo.  He was a member of the Tishomingo Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22 at 3:30 pm at Palestine Church, Tishomingo, MS with Bro. Danny Young officiating.  Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife-Bonnie Gann of Tishomingo; three children-Ronald Dale Gann, Hope Sappington (Chris Grimes) and Bridget Gann; four grandchildren-Kaylee Dostica, Landon Sappington, Briley Gann and Bentley Grimes; four sisters-Barbara Mock, Edith Russell, Linda Patterson (Rex) and Freeda Smith; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-Roy Gann; sister-Darlene Maxwell; son-in-law-Chris Sappington; brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Russell, Donnie Russell, Robert Deaton, Dale Gann, Jerry Smith, Mark Wanner and Terry Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be Bubba Wilson and Kenneth McVay.

Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 6-9 p.m. at Palestine Church and until service time Tuesday.

VONDEEN PRUITT

BELMONT, MS. – Vondeen Pruitt, 77, died Monday, April 14, 2014 at her residence. She was born May 14, 1936 in Holcutt, Ms. She was a seamstress and was retired from  H.I.S. She was a charter member of Landmark Baptist Church, Dennis, Ms.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at Landmark Baptist Church with Bro. Hal Holt, Bro. Phillip Logan and David Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Gardens, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 54 years – Avis Pruitt, Belmont, Ms.; two daughters – Judy Eaton, Dennis, Ms. and Rhonda Wright (Martin) Iuka, Ms.; one son – David Pruitt (Jodi) Belmont, Ms.; a step-son – Ronnie Pruitt; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters – Vadeen Burcham (L.R.), Ann Crabb and Betty Colbert (Bill).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Ollie Barnett, a daughter, Vonda Kay Pruitt, a brother, Jay Barnett and a brother-in-law, Bill Crabb.

Pallbearers will be Bradly Sparks, Justin Sparks, D.J. Smith, Stone Pruitt, Gunner Pruitt and Jon Baley Eaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Trace Pruitt, River Ford, Dylan Tummins, Trent Rodgers, Brent Rodgers, Lake Sparks, Lawson West, Cody Sides, Cameron Sides and Cory Sides.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at  Landmark Baptist Church and until service time on Friday.


DALTON CROWE

GOLDEN, MS. – James Dalton Crowe, 67, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his residence. He was born August 10, 1946 in New Site, Ms. and was a logger for 40 years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. There will be no funeral services. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. assisted the family.


DOUGLAS RAY BENNETT

DENNIS, MS. – Douglas Ray Bennett, 49, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1964 in Tupelo, Ms., played varsity football at Belmont High School and was a certified auto mechanic. He was retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard after 26 years and was Sgt. of Troop C 1st Cavalry.  He served three tours, one in Bosnia and two in Iraq. Doug was a very generous, kind-hearted person who helped numerous people throughout his life. He was a member of Red Bud Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Red Bud Baptist Church, Dennis, Ms. with Bro. Bobby Jarrell and Bro. Edwin Pharr officiating. Burial will be in East Prentiss Cemetery, New Site, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a brother – David Bennett (Zane) Dennis, Ms.; a nephew – Kyle Bennett (Leigha) Belmont, Ms. and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Nella Faye Bennett and a niece, Christian Faith Bennett.

Pallbearers will be Gary Pounders, David High, Wendall Grubbs, Tabo McAnally and Larry Henry.  Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Moore, Tillman Ivy and Keith Bennett.

Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Red Bud Baptist Church.

NELLIE EPPS CLARK

BELMONT, MS. – Nellie Epps Clark, 80, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at her residence. She was born December 29, 1933 in Tishomingo County, Ms. She was a graduate of Belmont High School and had been an employee of Blue Bell for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. She enjoyed going to Tishomingo Elderly Day Care at the Tishomingo State Park.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ray Burks and Haskell Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter – Becky Martin (Skip) Dennis, Ms.; one son – Robert Clark (Janice) Golden, Ms.; four grandchildren – Chris Clark, Darrel Clark, Keygon Clark and Megan Martin; one step-granddaughter - Stephanie Williams (Dennis);  four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; one sister – Otha Mae Brown (T.L.) Greenville, S.C.; two brothers – Thurman Epps, Golden, Ms. and Walter Lee Epps (Lourie) Red Bay, Al. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Elbridge Epps and Annie Malone Epps, her husband, Leland Clark and three sisters, Gracie Spearman, Rachel Winchester and Genner Rae Parrish.

JEFF KEMP

BELMONT, MS – Jeffery Greene Kemp, 47, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his residence.  He was born May 30, 1966 in Red Bay to Bobby Joe and Lydia Mae Kemp.  He was the Tishomingo County Constable for 12 years and the Paramedic director for Transcare Ambulance Service for 17 years.  He served as resource officer for Tishomingo County Vo-Tech and Health officer at New River Homes and Belmont Homes.  He was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church and an avid LSU fan.

Services will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at 3:30 pm at Golden Central Baptist Church with Bro. Mickey Trammel and Haskell Sparks officiating.  Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include son-Hobie Kemp (Tamara) of Belmont; daughters-Katelyn and Kelsey Kemp of Belmont; brother-Mike Kemp (Mary Jo) of Belmont; sisters-Margaret Thorn (Paul) of Dennis and Becki Roberts (Stacy) of Belmont; close personal friend-Candice Whitaker; host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family, friends and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-Miriam Leeann Kemp and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Michael Kemp, Kalim Wells, Leslie Adams, Ray McGee, William Whitaker, and Adam Kostelansky.  Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Bradley and Russ Robinson.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 23 from 6-10 p.m. at Golden Central Baptist Church and until service time Monday.


JUNE GAUTHIER

BELMONT, MS. – June L. Gauthier, 74, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Ms. She was born June 30, 1939 in Belmont, Ms. and was a housewife.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Haskell Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Richard Gauthier (Rhonda) Belmont, Ms.; two grandchildren – Heather Dooley and Megan Engle; one sister – Wydell Bolton; one brother – J.C. McRae and one niece – Truda Sehgal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Gauthier, her parents, W.W. McRae and Gertrude Brown McRae and brothers and sisters, Wanda McRae, Zena Ladnier, W.L. McRae and Fred McRae.

EDWARD CHUMBLEY

BELMONT, MS. – Edward Eugene Chumbley, 92, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1921 in Murray County, Tn. to William Robert and Sarah Jane Rummage Chumbley. He was an employee of Blue Bell and Wrangler for 30 years. He was a member and deacon of Old Path Missionary Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving four years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Old Path Missionary Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Brian Weems (opening prayer), Bro. Michael Brand, Bro. Keith Hood and Bro. James Segars (closing prayer) officiating.  Burial will be in  Old Path Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife – Earlene Segars Chumbley; three sons – Joe Edward Chumbley (Martha), Ronald Andy Chumbley (Lynn) and David Mark Chumbley (Patty); four grandchildren – Candace Harris (Layne), Kyle Chumbley, Bart Chumbley and Isaac Chumbley; two great-grandchildren – Emmi and Carter Harris; sisters and brother – Lou Willie Alford and Annie Garrett, both of Lewisburg, Tn., Ruth Sharp (Albert) Lavaca, Ar. and Robert “Jack” Chumbley (Olene) Tremont, Ms. and a brother-in-law – James E. Segars and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Carter and Elvie Segars and three brothers, Earl, Lelie and J.C. Chumbley.

FREEDA SANDERSON

BELMONT, MS – Freeda Cruse Sanderson, 71, died Thursday, March 13, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Booneville, MS.  She was born in Belmont to Bonnie and Vada Cruse. 

Services will be Sunday, March 16, 3:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont with Bro. Jerry George officiating.  Burial will be in Joel Cemetery, Dennis, MS.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons-Anthony “Tony” Marbry (Kim) of Fulton and Rocky Marbry of Belmont; one grandson-Stephen Marbry; three sisters-Martha Elrod, Sylvia Steele and Patricia Witt (Paul) all of Belmont; one brother James Cruse (Dedra) of Belmont; special friend-Charlie Sanderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-Todd Marbry; daughter-in-law-Leighann Marbry; grandson-Wheeler Marbry; brother-Billy Cruse; and her first husband-Bubba Marbry.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

KENNY HODGES

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Kenneth R. “Kenny” Hodges, 53, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Tishomingo, Ms. He was born December 30, 1960 in Cherokee, Al. and had been an employee of Golden Manufacturing. He attended The Word Outreach Ministry of Guys, Tn. and was a member of Carter’s Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Carter’s Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Tishomingo, Ms. Burial will be in Carter’s Branch Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his mother – Margaret Ann Hodges, Tishomingo, Ms.; one son – Goliath Johnson, Henderson, Tn.; one brother – Earnest Hodges, Fulton, Ms.; three sisters – nana Cobbs, Greenville, Ky. and Lena Swinney and Debra Spence, both of Tishomingo, Ms.; three uncles – Walter Hodges, Hubbard Hodges and Jerry Boyd; two aunts – Lizzie Doss and Lottie McClain; nine nieces and nephews and special friend - Peggy Hughes, Tishomingo, Ms.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hodges; three brothers, Tommy Gene Butler, Perry Boyd and Robert Hodges ad one sister, Mary Ann Boyd.

Pallbearers will be Anderson Martin, Lawrence Neal, Phillip Allen, Johnny Southward, Jerry Taylor and Michael Luster.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and he will lie in state 12-2 p.m. on Saturday at Carter’s Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

BRENDA MITCHELL

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Brenda Feltman Mitchell, 62, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her daughter’s residence. She was born May 19, 1951 to Riley and Dimple Pirtle. She was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Rienzi, Ms.  She was a pipefitter at Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant, a sewing machine operator and caretaker for her mother for many years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Gabe Jolly and Bro. Bill Burcham officiating.  Burial will be in New Lebanon Cemetery, Cairo, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two children – Tonya Long (Dickey) Golden, Ms. and Jamie Deaton (Shonda) Tishomingo, Ms.; three grandchildren – Justin Pounders (Beth), Tyler Deaton and Cole Deaton; one great-grandchild – Tristin Pounders; her mother – Dimple Pirtle and one brother, Terry Pirtle.

She was preceded in death by her father, Riley Pirtle and husbands, Daryl Mitchell and David Feltman.

GLADYS BICKERSTAFF

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Gladys Tynes “Sis” Bickerstaff, 85, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Iuka Hospital. She was a beautician and owner of Sis’s Beauty Shop and a factory worker. She was 2003 Tishomingo Citizen of the Year. She loved helping with the elections, going to basketball games and going to Tishomingo State Park Senior Citizens. She was a member of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Tishomingo Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Crane and Bro. Todd Cecil officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one sister – Peggy Page; nieces and nephews – Reed McNatt, Stanley Page (Terri), Susan Bonds (Jeff) and Joseph McNatt (Jena) and great-nieces and nephews – Morgan McNatt, Cameron Bonds, Anna Brooke Page, Serah Eden McNatt and Micah Page.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Bickerstaff and Gladys Morgan Bickerstaff, a sister, Mary McNatt and brothers-in-law, Willis Page and Lakeman McNatt.

RUBY EPPS

DENNIS, MS. – Ruby Epps, 93, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Tishomingo Community Living Center, Iuka, Ms. She was born October 20, 1920 in Itawamba County, Ms. and was a housewife.  She was a member of Providence Primitive Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Cecil Woodruff and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Ray Epps (Helen) Tishomingo, Ms.; one granddaughter – Rhonda Epps, Memphis, Tn. and one brother, Bill Moxley, Dennis, Ms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Epps, her parents, Joseph M. Moxley and Annie Alice Dulaney Moxley, a son, Jimmy Epps, and brothers and sisters, Grover Moxley, Dayton Moxley, Arbie McKinney, Serena Kemp, Jane Hoard and Homer Moxley.

Pallbearers will be Steven Johnson, Charles Daily, Elvis Moxley, Eddie Moxley, Neal Moxley and Jack McKinney.

LOUISE TAYLOR

BELMONT, MS – Louise Branson Taylor, 90, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Tishomingo Community Living Center in Iuka, MS.  She was born September 29, 1923 to Evie Puckett and Frank Branson.  She was the devoted wife of Grady Taylor who preceded her in death on March 1, 1990. 

She grew up in the Tishomingo area and graduated from Tishomingo High School.  For more than 60 years she lived in the Valley Community where she was a faithful member of Old Union Baptist Church serving as song leader for many years.

During her working years she helped support the family farm operation as well as working for Blue Bell Inc. for the full time the company remained in Belmont.

Services will be Tuesday, March 4, 2:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home chapel, Belmont with John Savoy and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating.  Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont is in charge of arrangements

She is survived by sons Gary Taylor and wife Anne and Larry Taylor and wife Jeannie.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life:  John-Grady and Erica Taylor, Justin and Lori Taylor, Carrie Ann and Drew Vincent, and Blake Taylor and Fiancé Lauren Williams; she would tell everyone how blessed she was to live and know her “grands” as she called her great-grandchildren: Andrew, Claire-Mann, Zoe and Cela-Cathryn Taylor and Glavin Vincent.

She was preceded in death by a grandson-William Branson “Bran” Taylor and three sisters-Beatrice Daily, Annice Harris and Mavis Palmer.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Enlow, Steve Cain, Phillip Cain, John-Grady Taylor, Justin Taylor, Blake Taylor and Drew Vincent.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 11-2 at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont.

PRESTON MALONE

BELMONT, MS - Preston N. Malone, 85, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his residence.  He was born January 27, 1929 in Dennis, MS to C.E. and Lucy Malone.  He was a member of Second Street Church of Christ and was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was employed at Blue Bell for 25 years and retired from Schnadig after 15 years. 

Services will be Monday, March 3, at 1:00 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, with John Williams, David Conley and Ron Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years-Rada Malone of Belmont; two daughters-Donna Hester (Robert) of Belmont and Denise Parrish (Keith) of Madison, AL; three grandchildren-Beverly Hester (Daniel Mann) of Belmont, Andrew Parrish (Megan) of Conway, Ark and Leslie Parrish of Madison, AL; two sisters-Virgie Waddle and Rachel Bruton; one brother-Sam Malone; two sisters-in-law-Jean Malone and Polly Malone; host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters-Clara Searcy, Geraldine Sartain, Lorene Hanie and Deck Posey; and four brothers-Virgil, Elree, Reece and Lumis Malone.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hanie, Tim Posey, Stan Malone, Mike Montgomery, Max Ray Hutcheson, Steve Smith, Randy Johnson, and Matthew Hastings.  Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Williams, Dennis Collins and Jerry Dees.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, March 2, and continue until service time Monday.

ARTHER MAE CRIDER

BRANDON, MS – Arther Mae Carter Crider, 61, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at River Oaks, Flowood, Ms. She was born September 9, 1952 in Iuka, Ms. and was a caretaker. She was a member of Sylvarena Baptist Church, Brandon, Ms. and a former member of First Missionary Baptist Church, Iuka, Ms.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at First Missionary Baptist Church, Iuka, Ms. with Pastor Colee Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery, Iuka, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband – Henry L. Boone, Brandon, Ms.; step-daughter – Sharron “Kitty” Spann, Brandon, Ms.; three sisters – Lucinda Martin, Frankie E. Allen and Lillian C. Brock; two brothers – Willie J. Carter and Billy K. Carter; several nieces and nephews and special sister-in-law – Flossie Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur King Carter and Sarah Caperton Carter and a sister-in-law, Doris Carter.

Brothers and nephews will be pallbearers and nieces and friends will be flower girls.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at First Missionary Baptist Church, Iuka, Ms.

BELMONT, MS. – Tommy Paul Ivey, 72, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at NMMC. He was born October 21, 1941 in Tishomingo County, MS to John Arliss and Fannie Jane Ivey.  He loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors are his wife of 53 years– Linda Ivey of Belmont; Son-Gary Ivey (Paula) of Dennis; five grandchildren-Audrey Ivey, Laken Ivey, Hannah Wood, Jayde Ivey and Olivia Ivey; four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-Thomas Dewayne “Shotgun” Ivey; and one brother-John Henry Ivey.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Price Thomas Long, 84, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Iuka Hospital. He was born August 4, 1929 in Tishomingo, Ms. and was retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years and then retired from Bell South after 21 years. He was a member of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 16, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Tim Ryan and Kent McClung officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife – Mary Long, Tishomingo, Ms.; four children – Deborah Ryan (Tim) Iuka, Ms., Richard Carter and Carole Josey (Jack), all of Tishomingo, Ms. and Roger Carter, Auburn, Al.; nieces and nephews – Kent McClung (Linda), Shauntel Nunley (Dustin) and John Poole (Sandy), all of Tishomingo, Ms., Sherry Stone (Kenny) Wyatt, Ms. and Rex M. BELMONT, MS. – Dexter Mae Malone “Deck” Posey, 82, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the North Ms. Medical Center. She was born May 31, 1931 in Dennis, Ms. and had been an employee of Blue Bell and h.i.s. She was a member of Second Street Church of Christ.

SALTILLO, MS. – Dennis Lynn Holley, 55, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at the North Ms. Medical Center. He was born December 31, 1958 in Tupelo, Ms. and was a driver for a commercial distributor for 30 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, at Cedar Grove United Pentecostal Church, Tupelo, Ms. with Rev. Danny Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Memorial Gardens, Tupelo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Keith Edward Deaton, 61, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the North Ms. Medical Center. He was born December 18, 1952 in Paden, Ms. and was a diesel mechanic currently working for MDOT. He was a member of Paden Baptist Church and served in the National Guard.

GOLDEN, MS. – Jackie Fay Bostick, 59, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born November 22, 1954 in Tupelo, Ms. He was a lifelong resident of Golden and was retired from Sunshine Mills where he was employed for 33 years. He was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to car shows, planting and tending to his garden and enjoyed being outdoors.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

GOLDEN, MS –John R. “Johnny” Jackson, 67, died January 25, 2014 at the Red Bay Hospital.  He was born in Franklin County, AL on January 21, 1947.  He was a truck driver and member of Believers Baptist Church in Fairview, MS.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years-LaRue Jackson of Golden; two daughters-Carol Greene (Kim) of Dennis and Sonya Eaton of Golden; one son-Bro. Carlton Jackson of Golden; four grandchildren-Nathanael Greene, Elizabeth Scott (McKinnley) and Jacob Lynch all of Dennis, and Carley Jackson of Golden; two sisters-Tommie Ann Wigginton of Belmont and Linnie Mae Dees (Rick) of Halltown.

BELMONT, MS. – Martha Wilson George, 76, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her residence. She was born November 10, 1937 in Itawamba County, Ms. to Arnold Wilson and Verma Lee Buchannon Wilson. She worked at several places including Charmstep, Oakwood, Belmont Homes and J.B. Gasaway Furniture. She enjoyed flea markets, auctions and bluegrass gospel music. She loved taking care of her garden, flowers and animals. She was a member of Red Bay Church of God.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 19, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Eulan Prueitt and Bro. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Dorothy Lackey and brother, Jimmy Doyle Wilson.

CHARLES KENNEDY BLACK

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Long time Tishomingo educator and principal, Charles Kennedy Black died at his home Wednesday, January 15, 2014 after an extended illness. He was born December 14, 1944, the only son of the late Woodrow and Clara Kennedy Black of Tishomingo. A 1962 graduate of Tishomingo High School, “Coach Black” as he was widely known, attended Mississippi State University and earned his Masters and Specialist degrees in Education. At the request of then-principal, R.C. Strickland, he returned home to teach at his alma mater, specifically to help the school successfully integrate in the 1966-67 school year.  He taught high school and then junior high science to countless Tishomingo students for 39 years and coached basketball and football teams early in his career. He drove the bus for the Carter’s Branch community, and had a special relationship with the people of that area. He was a behind-the-scenes leader and administrator, supporting the work of many of Tishomingo’s principals. He was principal of Tishomingo Middle School when he retired a few years ago.
Charles served the county for many years as a member of the Tishomingo County Electric Power Association Board of Directors, including through the 1994 ice storm. There was seemingly no person or family in Tishomingo with whom Charles Black was not familiar, and he had nearly perfect recall if you asked him about someone. He was a member of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 17, at Tishomingo Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Crane and Bro. Todd Cecil officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia McRae Black, and their son, Alan, who was his pride and joy and an uncle, Dwight Kennedy.

Pallbearers will be Connor McRae, Jeremy Ray, Jody McClung, Paul Whitlock, Jon Paul Whitlock and Harry Bowman.

BELMONT, MS – Marjorie Christine Wanner, 94, died Friday, January 3 at the Iuka Hospital.  She was a diehard Alabama fan from the age of 14.  She was an excellent cook and loved to fish.  She was a former restaurant owner in Detroit, MI before moving to Belmont.

Services will be Monday, January 6 at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in Forrest Grove Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont in charge of arrangements.

GOLDEN, MS.-Etoice M. Franks, 84, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at The Courtyards, Fulton, Ms. She was born February 16, 1929 in Golden, Ms. and was a seamstress. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

ROBERT D. COOKE

BELMONT, MS. – Robert D. Cooke, 91, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Iuka Hospital. He was born May 2, 1922 in Minneapolis, Mn. and was a mechanic. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II and Korea. He received three medals, American Defense Medal, American Theater  and Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ray Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 45 years – Lydia Cooke, Belmont, Ms.; five children – Patti Bennett (Mark), Robin Cooke, Keith Cooke, Kathy Cooke and Deb Mattison (Mark) all of Minnesota; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two step-children – Cindy McDermond (Richard) and Pat Larson (Robert) and a step-son-in-law – Ken Howard.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Cooke, a brother, Bill Cooke and a step-daughter, Joanne Howard.

WILLENE ADAMS

GOLDEN, MS – Willene Adams, 76, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at her residence.  She was born July 25, 1937 in Belmont to Will and Myrtle Cranford.  She was a member of Saucer Creek Church of Christ.  She was an avid bird watcher and loved listening to country music.

Services will be Tuesday, December 31, at 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont with Bro. Paul Epler, Bro. Billy Adams and Mike Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in Saucer Creek Cemetery, Golden, MS.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include four children-Regina Adams (Reed) of the Ryans Well community, Clayton Adams (Cathy), Kathy Harnage (Sammy) and Dale Adams all of the Salem community; twelve grandchildren-Kim Aldridge (Jeff), Matt Adams (Ameilia), Tonya Breedlove (Kirk), Kelly Cambell (Gerald), Shane Adams (Darla), Angie Yielding (Johnny), Sheila Adams, Mark Renfroe (Dalonna), Sherry Landsdell, Isaac Adams, Johnathan Adams and Crystal Adams; 21 great grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Marvin Adams; her parents; one sister-Reba Kuykendall; son-Roy L. Adams and grandson-Thomas “Tom” Adams.

TISHOMINGO, MS - Charles Edward “Mississippi Kid” Allen, 61, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at NMMC.  He was born in Cherokee, AL to Nathan and Annie Lou Allen.  He was a farmer and a truck driver.  He was a diehard Alabama fan.  His hobbies included working on cars and his motorcycle.  He loved spending time outdoors fishing and enjoying nature.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Bakiri Brown and Rev. Willie Bogan officiating.  Burial will be in Carter’s Branch cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont in charge of arrangements.

ZACK CARPENTER

BELMONT, MS – Zackary Levi Carpenter, 19, died Saturday, December 21, as the result of an automobile accident.  Zack graduated from Belmont High School in 2012 and was currently pursuing a degree in secondary education and coaching from ICC where he was a member of the baseball team.  Zack was full of life always making people laugh and he possessed the prettiest smile ever seen.

The celebration of Zack’s life will be Monday, December 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Holy Church of Christ with his great uncle Rev. Kevin Rogers officiating.  Burial will be in Joel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his parents Gary and Kim Carpenter; his awesome brother, Austin “Weeble” Carpenter; special sister, Samantha Carpenter; nephew-Luke and niece Ella whom he adored; grandparents, Marsha Keeton and Thomas and Maybell Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents-Lamar and Evelyn Rogers.

BELMONT, MS. – Bro. John Bervin Stockton, 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the North Ms. Medical Center. He was born January 20, 1936 to William Marion and Phelma Wood Stockton. He loved to sing and play his guitar.  He was the pastor of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church for 24 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Belmont Lodge #237 and  Eastern Star. He loved spending time with his family and fishing.

THOMAS OZBIRN

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Thomas Doyle Ozbirn, 67, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at his residence. He was born October 3, 1946 in Golden, Ms. He was retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He first enlisted after high school in 1964 and re-entered as a commissioned officer upon his graduation from Ole Miss in 1980. Tom wrote code for the Strategic Air Command’s alert system that is still in use today. His department supported operations in Desert Storm from which they received commendations for their efforts. He retired from Jackson County, Mississippi from the Computer Department.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 9, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Dwight South and Perry Young officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED BAY, AL. – C.D. Rogers, 88, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born January 28, 1925 in Itawamba County, Ms. He was retired as a mechanic serving in the U.S. Navy and Air Force after 20 years. He was also retired from the City of Austin, Tx. He was a member of Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, Ms.

HERMAN GRAY

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Herman Gray, 93, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Iuka Hospital. He was born to Rufus Burton and Artie McNutt Gray on February 4, 1920 on the family farm in the Bethlehem Community near Tishomingo, Ms. He loved that farm and worked it as long as health permitted. He often told his children about how his great-grandpa Mike farmed this same land. He often said some of the happiest days of his life were plowing in the field just him, the mule and God. Happiness to him was owning a good pair of mules, a good hunting dog, a good gun, eating fried fish and ice cream and good fiddle, guitar and banjo music. He loved flea markets and auction sales and was very interested in family histories.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

GOLDEN, MS. – Bobby W. Embrey, 55, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, Tn. He was born September 8, 1958 in Red Bay, Al. He was a Fabrication Shop Specialist with Fergerson Enterprises for 17-1/2 years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

TISHOMINGO, MS –Charles William “Bill” Sneed, 78, died Thursday, November 21 at Iuka Hospital.  H was born April 3, 1935 in Corinth to Hildred Duncan and Beulah A. Taylor Sneed.  He was a heavy equipment operator.

QUAKERTOWN, PA. – Joseph Christopher Laird, 29, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at his residence. He was born January 8, 1984 in Virginia Beach, Va. He was a truck driver for ten years.

DWAYNE COKER

BELMONT, MS. – Dwayne Coker, 78, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at the North Ms. Medical Center. He was retired from Reynolds Aluminum Co. after more than 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was currently serving as Commander of the Belmont VFW. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He loved working with wood.

He was a Mason, a dual member of Bay Springs Lodge #167 and Iuka Lodge #94 and was a member in good standing of the Hamasa Shriners. He was serving as Emminent Commander of the Corinth Commandry York Rite and had also served as Head of the Chapter and Council. He was a 32nd degree KCCH in the Valley of Corinth Scottish Rite where he had served in the 32nd degree team and worked in the sound department as well as other things. He was president of the Tishomingo County Scottish Rite Association.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. William McClellan officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years – Virginia Coker, Belmont, Ms.; two children – Kim Coker, Belmont, Ms. and Jason Coker (Natalie) Dennis, Ms.; two grandchildren – Jenny Lynn and Jake Coker; four sisters – Betty Jean Thornton, Rubene Spencer, Billie Ruth Kay and Clara Nell Brown; two brothers – Donald Coker (Arweeda) and Hubert Coker (Carolyn); two brothers-in-law – Gerald Henley (Tonya) and Billy Ray Henley (Lynn) and two sisters-in-law – Julie Mae Coker and Nellie Coker.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Mary Lucille Sappington, 81, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, Ms. She was born November 17, 1931 in Michigan City, Ms. and had been an employee of Blue Bell. She was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Sappington, her parents, Ivan Adam Tribble and Mary Rosie Elizabeth Woods Tribble; two brothers – Ivan Adam Tribble Jr. and Marvin Eugene Tribble; a step-son, James Sappington and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Sappington.

BELMONT, MS. – Gracy Florene Sparks, 86, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 24, 1927 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, at New Bethel Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Haskell Sparks and Bro. William McClellan officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are seven children – Jimmy Sparks (Rita), Barbara Jarnigan, Paul Sparks, Kelly Sparks (Tina), Charlotte Hester (Jesse), Donnie Sparks (Charlotte) and David Sparks (Lavonda); one sister – Thelma Sparks; one brother – Cleburn Newell (Francis); 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Sparks, a son, Phillip Sparks, two grandsons, Randy Sparks and Timothy Sparks, her father and mother, Olen and Elsie Newell and a brother, Paul Newell.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

RUTH MANN

BELMONT, MS. –Ruth Virginia Nanney Mann, 97, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi.  Mrs. Mann had resided at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville for the last two years.  Before moving to The Carrington, her primary caregiver in Belmont for several years was Mrs. Nell McGee. Mrs. Mann was born in Mantachie, Ms. on June 16, 1916 to the late Dr. N. W. Nanney and the late Mrs. Vivian Ballard Nanney Hughes.

After graduating in 1933 from Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, Ms., she attended and graduated from MUW in Columbus, Ms., then known as MSCW, a school that was dear to her heart. She taught school in Fulton, Tupelo, and then in Belmont, where she shared her love of the English language for 20 years. She met Etha Mann after coming to Belmont to teach and they married in 1941. They were married for 52 years before his death in 1993.

Mrs. Mann was a member of First Baptist Church, Belmont, all her married life and beyond, and she taught Sunday School there for over 60 years. She sang in the church choir until she was no longer physically able to get in the choir loft, was active in WMU, and was a member of the Ladies Care Circle at FBC.

Other joys in her life included her bridge club, a group composed of members from Red Bay and Belmont, that met once a month for many years and the Allegro Motor Home Club, with which she and Etha traveled across the U.S. and beyond for 12 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Jack Maroon, Bro. Ray Burks and Phil Byram officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

She loved her family dearly and is survived by her two daughters - Jenny Reed (Jerry) and Kathy Keys (Tony); her grandchildren - Jay Reed (Melissa), Rusty Reed (Mindy), Davey Keys (Peggy), Anna Keys Durden (Cameron), and Carol Keys Gledhill (Clay); her great-grandchildren - Jacob Reed, Lauren Reed, Peyton Reed, Ruthie Reed, Abbie Durden and Cameron Durden, Jr. and several nieces and a nephew.

Mrs. Mann was preceded in death by her husband, Etha Mann, her parents, an infant brother, and her two sisters, Sybil Stewart and Hallie Armstrong.
Pallbearers will be Jay Reed, Jacob Reed, Rusty Reed, Davey Keys, Cameron Durden, Clay Gledhill, Duane Mann and Bill Stewart.

GOLDEN, MS. – Clarion Malaya Wood, 22 months, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Children’s Hospital, Birmingham, Al. She was born January 4, 2012 in Florence, Al.

BELMONT, MS. – Charles Edward Posey, 83, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Shearer Richardson Memorial Home, Okolona, Ms. He was born July 12, 1930 in Arkansas and was a factory worker for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

BELMONT, MS. – Howard Travis Johnson, 87, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born August 5, 1926 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Mason and member of Bay Springs Lodge.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, at Belmont City Cemetery with Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sisters-in-law – Ann Martin and Martha Brown; one brother-in-law – C.D. Rogers; nephews – Jeff, Larry and David Martin and nieces – Donna Cooper and Regina Virden and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. TISHOMINGO, MS.  - Charles Owen Byram, 88, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Ms. Care Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born September 4, 1925 in Dennis, Ms. He was a photographer with McDonald-Douglas. He was an avid photographer and airbrush artist winning several awards for his restoration work. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II and the U.S. Air Force.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms.  Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Nadine South Loveless, 86, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Baptist East, Memphis, Tn. She was born May 15, 1927 in Tishomingo County, Ms. She was director at Timber Hills and an active member of Paden Baptist Church.

BALDWYN, MS –Joe Leonard Pardue, 58, died August 30, 2013 at NMMC.  He was born in Red Bay to Walter Scott and Gladys Pardue.  He was a business owner working in the timber industry.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 1 at 3:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Jerry Mitchell officiating.  Burial will be in the Lindsey Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his daughter-Donisha Pardue of Florence; Fiance-Zenaida Dela Cerna; two sisters-Daphne Keeton (Claude) and Amelia Higginbottom (Charles); nieces and nephews-Camille Stanfield, Carissa Searcy, Ronson Higginbottom and Raymond Scott Pardue.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-Roger Scott Pardue.

DENNIS, MS. – R.C. Grimes, 94, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born November 6, 1918 in Prentiss County, Ms. He had been an employee of American Motors in Kenosha, Wi. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, at Deaton Funeral Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. David Gould officiating.  Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

GOLDEN, MS. – Walter Willis Embrey, 86, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 12, 2013.  He was born May 29, 1927 in Iuka, Ms. to William and Carrie Maxwell Embrey. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a carpenter, worked at the railroad for 11 years and was a former employee of Tiffin Motor Homes.

BELMONT, MS. – Eva Jo Johnson, 83, died Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born October 17, 1929 in Tennessee and was an office worker for Sears Corp. for thirty years. She was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.

Survivors are his wife – Inner Jean Bohannon; one son – Randy Bohannon (Rhonda); four daughters – Kathy Wilemon, Patsy Kelton, Brenda Deaton (Donald) and Barbara Lindley (Tim); two sisters – Maxine Rea and Betty Jo Oliver; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

BELMONT, MS – Sherron Ruth Wanner Henley, 64, died Friday, July 19, at the Red Bay Hospital.  She was a registered nurse and she loved her dog Missy and her cat Miss Kitty.

IUKA, MS. – Bobby Benjamin “Bob” Russell, 79, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 17, 1933 in Athens, Al. and was an employee of Tishomingo Power Company for more than 40 years.

DENNIS, MS. – Eunice Pardue, 79, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Iuka Hospital. She was born November 5, 1933 in Alabama and was a factory worker. She attended Highland Baptist Church, Tishomingo, Ms.

There will be no funeral services. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. assisted the family.

Survivors are one son – Kenneth Clingan (Ann) Dennis, Ms.; one daughter – Deb Clark (Dave) Paducah, Ky.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

ROBERT WILLIAMS

BELMONT, MS. – Robert Lee Williams, 95, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Southern Magnolia in Golden. He was born in Alabama to Andrew and Leona Alice Massey Williams.  He worked at Blue Bell for over 30 years and was a farmer.  He and his wife Hazel owned and operated Williams Florist for many years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont MS with John Williams, Kevin Williams and James Gibson officiating.  Burial will be in Joel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons-Wallace Williams (Glenda) and John Williams (Betty) all of Dennis; six grandchildren-Keith Williams, Bret Williams, Cindy Bullock, Alan Williams, Jennifer Guyton and Kevin Williams; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by wife-Hazel Williams; a son-James Williams.

DENNIS, MS. – Clifton H. Orick, 80, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at North Ms. Medical Center. He was a native of Mississippi and a television technician for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

BELMONT, MS-Audie Gene Sparks, 80, died Saturday, June 22, at NMMC.  He was born in Tishomingo County, MS to Audie Bryan and Lera Mae Johnson Sparks.  He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.  He was a member and deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church where he also served as Sunday school teacher.  He was a retired teacher.  He was principal at Belmont Elementary, bus driver and PE coach with an avid love of basketball.

Services will be Monday, June 24, 2:00 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Weems and Mike Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

BELMONT, MS – Bobby Keith Pardue, 48, died Saturday, June 15 in Ripley, MS.  He was born November 28, 1964 in Red Bay.  He was a skilled mechanic and he never met a stranger.

He is survived by four children-Christopher Pardue, LeAnn Pardue, Toni Mariea Pardue and Bobby Joe Pardue all of Hamilton, AL; seven grandchildren; his step-mother-Paula Pardue of Cherokee; four brothers-Wade Pardue, Tony Pardue, Johnathan Pardue and Corey Pardue; two sisters-Lori Pruitt and Megan Pardue Clements; special friend - Rejetta Jumper and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-Larry Gene Pardue and his mother-Wanda Lynch Pardue Holder.

Survivors are three children – Wreathel Davis and Bob Hammett, both of Dennis, Ms. and Faye Wells, Belmont, Ms.; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hammett, her parents, Walter Partain and Minnie Shedd Partain, one great-grandchild, five brothers and two sisters.

GOLDEN, MS. – Alvin Nelson Welch, Sr., 73, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Pennsylvania to Herbert and Dora Merrill Welch.  He built homes and was retired from Sun-Air Products.

Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, at his home. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS assisted the family.

He is survived by his wife Anna M. Peluso Welch whom he married on September 2, 1967; his son-Alvin N. Welch, Jr. (Crystal) of Shinglehouse, PA; his daughter-Cindy A. Fisch (Barry) of Golden; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; six sisters-Jean, Hazel, June, Ruth, Wilma and Connie; two brothers-Lamont and Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.


ROGER THORN

BELMONT, MS. – Roger Dale Thorn was born June 28, 1951 to Leonard and Marie Thorn. He departed this earthly home on June 3, 2013. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren, Tucker Daylen and Alyssa Marie. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson and granddaughter. He was a life-long farmer and insurance crop adjuster for 26 years. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Frances Lee Neal Kennedy died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at North Ms. Medical Center. Frances devoted her time to her family. Her later years were spent enjoying her grandchildren and encouraging them to be successful in life. For the past year and a half, Frances and her great-grandson, Baby Ty, had become constant companions, loving and encouraging each other. She was a member of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

DENNIS, MS. – Jennie Mae Solomon Rushing, 83, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at her residence. She was born May 15, 1930 in Iuka, Ms. and was retired from Tishomingo State Park. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church, Tishomingo, Ms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Milton Solomon and Maggie Florence Page Solomon, two brothers, Lamar & Leon Solomon and an infant sister.

LUTHER WILTSHIRE

BELMONT, MS –Luther Howard “Bone” Wiltshire, 91, died May 22, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, AL.  He was born January 30, 1922 in Carroll County, MS.  He was a brick mason and a veteran of the US Air Force serving during WWII.  He enjoyed spending time at the Tishomingo State Park.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 26 at 5:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont with Bro. Greg Forbus and Buddy Wiltshire officiating.  Burial will be in the Sand Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived two daughters-Linda Dawn Wiltshire of Columbus, OH and Sandra Fawn Fields of Aurora, CO; one son-Randy Scott Wiltshire of Jackson Hole, WY; five grandchildren-Lt. William Christopher Howard McBride (Cheryl), Catherine Louise Roswell (Ewan), Cheri Leianne McBride-Moon (Arlo), Kelly Dardis (Ken) and Angie Fields; eight great grandchildren-Gage and Bradley McBride, Liam and Elizabeth Roswell, William McBride and Zachariah Moon; nieces and nephews-Jeannie “Doodle” Potts, Gayle “BeBe” Lewis, Jerry Curtis Streetman, Phyllis Strickland, Sylvia Chamblee, Dixie Griffin, Buddy Wiltshire and Donna McAnally; numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents-Jake Pickens and Jennie Greer Wiltshire; four brothers and sisters-Frank Pickens Wiltshire, Henry Andrew Wiltshire, Minnie Streetman and George Lee Wiltshire.

Visitation will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Sunday, May 26 at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.

DENNIS, MS. – Mazel Scott, 89, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at The Meadows, Fulton, Ms. She was born November 4, 1923 in Tennessee and was a housewife. She attended Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Robbie Crane officiating. Burial will be in Harmontown Baptist Church Cemetery, Como, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Bobby Scott (Charlotte) Dennis, Ms.; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her twin sister – Hazel E. Spinola, Memphis, Tn.; one brother – Harry Butler (Etheline) Memphis, Tn. and a sister-in-law – Sue Butler, Memphis, Tn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor R. Scott, a son, Victor L. Scott, a grandson, Ryan Scott and a brother, Frank Butler.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms.

BELMONT, MS. – Marilyn Brosious Crane, 52, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at UAB, Birmingham, Al. She was born November 4, 1960 in Booneville, Ms. and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.


Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ray Burks, Bro. Greg Forbus and Bro. David Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Dennis Memory Gardens, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Billy Gene Page, 79, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 24, 1933 in Tishomingo, Ms. and had worked at Consolidated Aluminum, Iuka, Ms. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and served on the Tishomingo County School Board 1977-1983.

GOLDEN, MS. – Eddie Mae Hutson Brown, 84, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, Ms. She was born March 20, 1929 in Tremont, Ms. She served as town clerk and secretary of Golden Water Association for 20 years. She also served as Mayor of Golden. She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Mickey Trammel and Bro. Shawn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Old Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hodges, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her children – Danny Brown (Vickie), Kay Brown, Ronnie Brown (Janie), A.J. Brown (Barbara) and Sherry Brown; six grandchildren – Kevin Brown, Jarrod Brown, Matthew Brown, Katie Benefield, Kassi Rushing and Julianna Bostrom; seven great-grandchildren – Aidan & Ethan Benefield, Conner & Keagan Brown and Carter, Camyrn & Paige Brown; one brother – Carl Hutson (Dorothy); sister-in-law – Helen Brown Williams and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

BETHEL SPRINGS, TN. – Dot Bushart, 62, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at McNairy Regional Health Center, Selmer, Tn. She was born June 6, 1950 in Pikeville, Ky. She was a member of Eastside Church of Christ, Selmer, Tn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Don Singleton officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 18 years – Dennis Bushart, Bethel Springs, Tn.; three sons – Howard Joseph Boggs Jr. (Tonie) and Robert Louis Boggs (Kellie) all of Bethel Springs, Tn. and David Eugene Boggs (Amanda) Henderson, Tn.; eight grandchildren – Jessica Nicole Boggs, Joseph Michael Boggs, Jordan Lynn Boggs, Kassidy Morgan Boggs, Kaitlyn Breann Boggs, Ethan Samuel Boggs, Alexis Michelle Boggs and Dylan Eugene Boggs; two sisters – Norma Jean Boggs (Pete) and Brenda Sue George (Turley); one brother – Larry Gale Hemby (Terry) and several nieces and nephews.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Jeania Rae Nash, 81, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. She was born July 9, 1931 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and was retired from Blue Bell.  She was a member of Tishomingo United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Tishomingo United Methodist Church with Bro. Tim Hankins and Bro. Roger Wood officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters – Diane Pruitt, Tishomingo, Ms. and Mickie Gatlin, Saltillo, Ms.; three grandchildren – Phyllis Goddard (Danny), Grant Gatlin and Drew Gatlin; one great-grandson – Tyler Goddard; one great-great-grandson – Colt Owens and one brother-Billy “Bud” Parrish, New Albany, Ms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Roy Nash, her parents, Fred Lawrence Parrish and Ottie Deaton Parrish and two sons-in-law – Tommy Gatlin and Ray Pruitt.

CAROLYN HUTCHESON

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Carolyn Sue Hutcheson, 66, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at the North Ms. Medical Center. She was born July 6, 1946 in Alabama, was a homemaker and a ham radio operator for 20 years.  She was a member of Forrest Grove Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Forrest Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Andy Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Grove Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 53 years – Lloyd Hutcheson, Tishomingo, Ms.; three daughters – Sherry Norris (Joe), Teresa Bostick (Joe) and Sharon Horn (Brian); two brothers – Walter Wilson and Johnny Wilson; six grandchildren – Andrew Straub (Candi), Chris Straub, Brittany Singleton, Eric Straub, Kristin Kennedy and April Walls and nine great-grandchildren – MacKenzie Straub, Jeremiah Straub, Kristen Crum, Kandi Horn, Dillon Horn, Cody Daniel, Ryan Kennedy, Karlee Straub and Payton Davis.

GOLDEN, MS. – Evelyn Fancher Cashion, 92, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home in Iuka, Ms. She was born October 28, 1920 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and she was a member of Golden Chapel United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Golden Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Bobby Hankins, Ron Deaton and David Conley officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Lynn Cashion Green (Harry) Hilton Head Island, S.C., Robert Cashion (Gunita) and Richard Cashion, all of Golden, Ms.; seven grandchildren – David Cashion Green (Lori), Mark Judson Green (Jennifer), Bryant Cashion (Dana), Amanda Ledbetter (Hal), Katie Crane (David), Breana Cashion and Bret Cashion and thirteen great-grandchildren – Cashion, Soyar, Preston, Kate, Charlie and Luke Green, Robert and Olivia Cashion, Maggie and Madeline Ledbetter and Ava, Anderson and Adele Crane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Cashion, her parents, Alexander Vinson Fancher and Alma Bostick Fancher and her brothers and sisters , Prebble Harlow, Arvis Clark, Marie Fancher, Dick Fancher, Dale Fancher, Deveral David Fancher, Luke Fancher and Virginia Yarber.

JULIA RUSSELL

BELMONT, MS. – Julia Maxine Yarber Russell, 85, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at her residence. She was the eleventh child of James Lafayette “Jim” Yarber and Francis “Fannie” Jane Montgomery Yarber.   She was born June 20, 1927 on their farm in Belmont. She married Orville Ray Russell, son of Finous and Lillian Russell on March 16, 1946. Ray went into the U.S. Army later that year and she lived with her parents during that time.

When Ray was discharged from the Army, they moved to Oklahoma shortly thereafter. A few years later, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Ray’s sister and husband lived. They lived there for 19 years and it was there they were blessed with their three children.

Julia and Ray worshipped at West End  Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years. She had a lovely soprano voice that many commented upon.  She helped her husband as he served as a deacon and elder.

The time came that they began to move south – home. Julia and Ray joined his parents farming although he worked in White Bluff, Tn. The bookkeeping became Julia’s job along with gardening that filled three deep freezers.  She doctored horses, fed cattle and delivered calves among other cattle farming chores.

She loved to cook, sew, crochet and participate as a team mother for her sons ball teams. She loved to watch all sports on television.  She is sorely missed by her family and friends already.  Her grandchildren were grand and her great-grandchildren were even greater. She was a member of Maud Church of Christ of Maud, Al.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 67 years – Orville Ray Russell, Belmont, Ms.; three children – Donald Ray Russell (Gail) Tupelo, Ms., Samuel Lee Russell (Diane) Belmont, Ms. and Cynthia Louise Russell Leach (Steve) Dickson, Tn.; grandchildren – Dave Russell (Deanna), Cory Russell (Carrie), Haley Russell, Lee Russell (Chondra),  Melissa Brandon (Dustin), Katilyn Russell, Shawn Russell, Makhia Russell, Daniel, Chelsey and Mary Rachel Leach; great-grandchildren – Dalton and Cole Brandon, Ty Russell, Aubree and Trace Russell and Addi and Maddox Becker; one brother – James L. Yarber Jr. (Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Esco, Roscoe, Otho and Floyd “Pete” Yarber and her sisters, Lera Lee, Lorene Yarber, Reba Deaton, Edna Page, Rachel Stout and Willie Deaton McNiece.

Pallbearers will be Dave Russell, Lee Russell, Cory Russell, Daniel Leach, Wayne Enlow, Terry Enlow, Shawn Russell and Dustin Brandon. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Deaton.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Sunday.


HERMAN LINDSEY

DENNIS, MS. – Herman Bostick Lindsey, 98, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born February 5, 1915 in Dennis, Ms. and had worked as a market manager for several chain grocery stores.  He was a member of Dennis United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force serving in World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ronnie Goodwin and Bro. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters – Barbara Graham and June DeVore (Steve) all of Iuka, Ms.; eight grandchildren – Kathy Sherard, Matthew Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Andrea Richardson, Kimberly Williams, Gail Muse, Wendy Hudson and Andy Weaver and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Lindsey, a son, Alieff Larry Lindsey, his parents, James Poke Lindsey and Lennie Melinda Flurry Lindsey, five sisters and one brother.

Pallbearers will be Brandon DeVore, Ben Sherard, Charles Gilmer, Wallace Wilson, Galon Nichols and Jerry Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons, Dillon Hudson and Johnnie Dean Hudson.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Wednesday.

SAMUEL C. DICKINSON

GOLDEN, MS. – Samuel C. Dickinson, 85, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. He was born November 11, 1927 in Mississippi and was an employee at Golden Manufacturing for 30 years. He was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Army.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Golden Central Baptist Church, Golden, Ms. with Bro. Mickey Trammel and Bro. Shaun Davis officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his half-brother –W.C. Dickinson, Haleyville, Al., four nephews and three nieces.

Pallbearers will be Brian Page, Greg Peppers, Graylin Cromeans, Wayne Dickinson, Mike Byram and Harmon Davis.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Golden Central Baptist Church.
